Holistic Yoga – Philosophy and Practice

    $600.00

YOG1000 – This course provides an introduction to holistic yoga, that integrates yoga philosophy from classical scriptural texts and sustained yoga practice.

In this course, we will explore the practices of yoga, such as asana (postures) and pranayama (breathing practices), along with the concept of the four streams of Yoga — Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Jnana Yoga — through the teachings of the primary texts the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Yoga Sutras.

The integrated approach to yoga is more than just a physical practice. It is a philosophy-based approach to viewing oneself and the rest of the world with a paradigm-shift. Holistic Ashtanga Yoga is an eight-limbed approach to yoga that synthesizes the traditional knowledge of yogic and vedantic texts, such as Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bhagavad Gita, and other yogic and upanishadic texts, as a rich and comprehensive set of practices.

Holistic Yoga Teacher Training Foundations Intensive

This course enables students to integrate holistic yoga into their lifestyle and become proactive in managing their stress and wellness. In this course, students will learn to integrate the principles and concepts of Holistic Yoga into their lifestyle through a deeper embrace of yoga sadhana — the persistent and consistent practice of yoga. With a deeper involvement in yoga practices, students will experience an increased motivation for yoga study and practice, and an improved quality of life and wellbeing i.e. higher energy levels, better sleep, and reduced proclivity for chronic illness.

In addition to this, students will learn to teach each other in a mock class environment in small group settings with a faculty who guides and moderates the student groups. The core content of this in-depth course consists of holistic Ashtanga Yoga, an eight-limbed approach to yoga that synthesizes the traditional knowledge of yogic and Vedantic texts, such as Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bhagavad Gita, among others, as a rich and comprehensive set of reference texts.

In this course, we will learn in-depth practices of yoga along with the concept of Ashtanga Yoga and the four streams of Yoga — Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Jnana Yoga — through analyzing the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Yoga Sutras as primary texts.

    Human Rights: A Hindu Perspective

    $1,500.00

CPS7506 – Though its origin could be traced to the ancient and medieval periods, human rights as a concept and policy instrument became popular in the 20th century, particularly after the promulgation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948. There are many scholarly studies on the subject, but most of them adopt a Eurocentric approach. Scarcely there are studies which bring into focus a Vedanta perspective on the subject.

The concept of practical Vedanta, popularized by Swami Vivekananda in the late 19th century, could be considered a precursor to the idea of human rights. Vedanta philosophy, Swami Vivekananda argued, has no value unless it addresses everyday problems confronted by human society including the exploitation of the weak, discrimination against women, and problems like poverty and illiteracy. He argued that for universal peace it is necessary that individuals come out of their selfish boundaries and think of the world as one family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam).

The course through its various modules emphasizes that Vedanta perspective with its deep philosophical and practical underpinnings is relevant for human rights policy and practice.
