International Politics: A Vedanta Perspective

International Politics: A Vedanta Perspective
$1,500.00CPS7507 – How does a Vedanta perspective widen our understanding of the current predicaments, and help us explore solutions to them? While exploring solutions to international conflicts, the Vedanta perspective goes beyond surface dimensions of conflicts. For example, Vedanta philsopher Sri Aurobindo argued, like individuals, states have egos– amplified through national habits, prejudices, and idiosyncrasies.
When applied to international politics, they lead to jingoism, exploitation, and wars, leading to practices like colonialism and imperialism. Colonialism and imperialism were only manifestations of an exploitative substructure. Though colonialism and imperialism belong to the past, the root, the ego, is intact, and its manifestation has acquired new shapes. The Vedanta perspective would also argue that state ego is not static, and it can evolve when state leaders think in terms of human unity and factor that thinking into policymaking.
The establishment of the United Nations, after the failure of the League of Nations, was hailed a right step in this direction. The UN was established with a promise to ensure dignity and equality to all states. Has this happened? The course explores all these dimensions while mainstreaming the Vedanta perspective and aims to design a Vedanta approach to international politics.

Internship and Practicum in Teaching Holistic Yoga
$600.00Teaching yoga is best learned under a mentor in a class-setting. In this internship, students will shadow experienced yoga instructors. The seeker of yoga has to consistently and persistently follow a mentor (or a set of mentors) and shadow their practice or teaching until one is soaked in their teaching styles. As a prospective yoga teacher, one needs to learn to observe techniques being taught, the response of the students and the overall experience a given session has on the students in a given yoga class.
In this course, the students get practical hands-on training with mentors to be able to teach yoga to their own class. The students form a group under a mentor and teach classes while the mentor observes and provides comments and feedback. In addition, the students get actual field experience where they shadow a real class. Following this, students teach their community in a safe environment where the mentor would be able to guide the students through their 20 hours of field practice and practicum delivery.

Introduction to Bhagavadgita

Introduction to Bhagavadgita
HSF5002 – The Bhagavad Gita is a moksha-shastra, a sacred text that reveals the vision of the Upanisads. In that vision one is, in reality, whole and complete, the truth of all that is. Knowing this fulfills the fundamental human aspiration for the fulfillment, freeing one from the problem of seeking, here or in the hereafter. It is also a yoga-sastra, a sastra that teaches not only the prerequisites to gaining this vision but the means for acquiring them. For students curious to know how to study Bhagavad Gita, this course will explore both aspects of this sastra through selected verses, to arrive at a comprehensive and consistent overview of the Bhagavadgita.
