The Hindu University of America currently offers two degrees in a single program: M.A. and the Ph.D. in Hindu Studies. Students pursuing either degree are encouraged to specialize in an area by taking a minimum of 6 courses in their chosen area. Currently, HUA offers the following areas:
The Hindu Studies Foundations area is a collection of mandatory Core courses, required for most Graduate Degrees.
The Sanskrit Studies area features immersive study of the Sanskrit language in Sanskrit medium, starting from basic familiarity, moving towards proficiency and takes the students deep into the world of mastery of Sanskrit.
The Yoga Studies area presents a collection of courses that represent an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Yoga in its full range of ideas, practices, values and benefits.
The Texts and Traditions (in Sanskrit called Shastra and Sampradaya) area is a collection of courses that take the student into a much deeper exploration of individual knowledge systems rooted in and emerging from Hindu thought.
Colonialism is not about economic exploitation alone; it severely impacts the civilizational ethos and culture of the colonized. The Hindu civilization has been under assault for the last thousand years because of which it has been significantly transformed
The History and Method area takes a deep dive into the evolution of European thought as it emerged through what has been called the “Enlightenment”, “Renaissance” and “Reformation” eras. It offers a collection of courses that explore the key ideas that gave rise to our contemporary mainstream understanding of the nature and place of history, historical process and the method of knowing the world through historical master narratives.
This area enriches the discipline of Conflict and Peace Studies by providing a Hindu perspective. By becoming more inclusive and pluralistic, conflicts at various levels can be approached more creatively.
