Description
Certificate Program in Sanskrit Proficiency – Advanced Phase – 2
consists of the last 4 courses of CPSP for students of all ages, post high school (Grade 12 or GED). It is the part 2 and last of three successive phases – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, which together comprise the Certificate Program in Sanskrit Proficiency. It assumes completion of the Beginner as well as Intermediate Phases of Sanskrit proficiency program. (Total 8 quarters) As the students advance in their proficiency, the language of instruction will shift gradually to Sanskrit, at a pace that is comfortable and easy.
It is a 4 – Quarter, 44 – week detailed study that prepares students with prior Sanskrit Knowledge to be capable of practicing reading, writing, and composing simple passages as well as engaging in simple conversations that will enable them to enter the higher-level courses with ease. The Intermediate Level CPSP is aimed at high school students and adults with a passion to learn a new language in depth and try to apply that when studying, the texts and literature of Hinduism and its numerous derivative knowledge systems. It is taught by dedicated HUA Faculty members, via a user-friendly Online Platform, featuring a learning model that uses live virtual classrooms.
Program Structure:
The Certificate Program in Sanskrit Proficiency – Advanced Phase – 2 is structured in the form of 4 quarters (1 years) sequence, 1.5 Credit hours each. This will add up to 60 hours of instruction and 120 hours of self-study in total. Structured innovatively using the curriculum and textbooks designed by Samskrita Bharati USA (SBusa.org), the Program will be based upon material contained in the SBusa published books, “SUVAANII” and “SAURABHAM“ and augmented with other appropriate course content.
At the completion of this phase, students will have the option to take up further advanced studies in Sanskrit through:
(a) the Master’s Certificate Programs, or
(b) the Master’s Degree in Sanskrit In any case, students will be participating in a “Higher Education” ecosystem that supports and enables advanced learning in Hindu studies as well as Sanskrit literary studies. Structured innovatively using the base curriculum and textbooks designed and published by Samskrita Bharati, the Program will be based on the material contained in the 12 books.

At the completion of the program of study, students will be able to achieve proficiency in the Sanskrit language across the following six dimensions:
(a) Reading (i.e., alphabets, words, and sentences); paThanam
(b) Writing (Forming comprehensible sentences and paragraphs); lekhanam
(c) Listening (Comprehending Sanskrit speech when someone else is speaking); shravaNam
(d) Conversing (Being able to speak grammatically accurate Sanskrit in a way that others can comprehend the meaning); sambhAShaNam
(e) Grammar (The structure and technology of the language); vyAkaraNam, and
(f) Comprehension (Being able to engage with complex sentences, both spoken and written, and discover their meanings without assistance. avagamanam
