Beginning Shuddh Hindi – Words & Vocabulary

HIN0102 – Master the “devanAgarii” / Hindi script, Pronounce the Hindi letters correctly, by understanding the origin of each sound, Build a vocabulary of at least 500 words in Hindi (nouns, pronouns, and verbs), Make simple sentences in all three persons, engage in simple conversations.

This course is the part of the program – Certificate Program in Shuddh Hindi – Beginner Phase. We strongly recommend registering for the complete program consisting of 4 quarters. The fee for all 4 quarters if paid together is $900 in contrast to $1200 if paid quarter by quarter. (25% off of the complete fee) (Excludes shipping and handling of textbooks)

Description

Beginning Shuddh Hindi – Words & Vocabulary

Learning Objectives:

  1. Build a vocabulary of at least 500 words in Hindi (nouns, pronouns, and verbs)
  2. Make simple sentences in all three persons
  3. Learn how to make requests and instructional statements
  4. Learn how to ask questions
  5. Recite simple Hindi words and phrases through listening, with the correct pronunciation.
  6. Listen to and recite simple songs.
  7. Engage in simple conversations.

Course Contents:

  1. Locative case: Simple sentences with 4 or more words using “mein”, “par”, “vahAn”, “yahAn”, “kahAn” etc.
  2. The first and second person pronouns and their corresponding verbs, both singular and plural
  3. Possessive case: Using “kA”, “ke”, “kii”
  4. The third person
  5. Adjectives
  6. Building interrogative and affirmative sentences
  7. Use of “merA”, “mere”, “merii”
  8. Use of “tum” and “Ap” and their impact on the verb
  9. Use of “bhii”, “mat”, and “ke liye”
  10. Build sentences in simple present tense
  11. Requests and commands
  12. The simple future tense
  13. Simple synonyms and antonyms
  14. Simple conversations using etiquette words

    TAT3102 – (C.P.H.S – Elective Course) Hindu Musical Traditions (Shastriya Sangeet traditions) are ancient and diverse.  This course takes students on a guided tour of the history of Indian music, from the Sama Vedic chants and the musical distinctions of the Natyasastra of Bharata muni and the Silappathikaram. It leads students through the Bhakti movement of the 1st millennium and theevolution of Karnatic music and then through the evolution of texts such as the Sangita Ratnakara and the Chaturdandi Prakasika in the 2nd millennium.

    It then explores the impact of Islamic and  Arab/Persian traditions on Indian music and the response of the Bhakti movement of the 2nd millennium  With a combination of lecture/discussions, reading assignments and guided listening experiences, the course provides a nuanced understanding of the evolution of Indian music and the contemporary state of music in India and amongst the diaspora.

    TAT3202 – (C.P.H.S – Elective Course) This Course is the Second of a two-part course series presenting an in-depth exploration of Sankhya Darshana (Philosophy) based on the Sanskrit text ‘Sankhya Karika’ of Ishvara Krishna. It is a short and succinct text of only 72 Karikas i.e., short explanatory verses on Rishi Kapila’s Sankhya Darshana. An understanding of the principles of Sankhya philosophy is extremely important to acquire a firm grounding in other Sanskrit texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, and the other Vedic philosophical systems such as Yoga and Vedanta.
