In this course the students will be able to:
In this course the students delve deeper into a wide variety of grammatical concepts and vocabulary. They proceed to learn vibhaktis (the first 5 declensions of nouns and pronouns) with the help of relevant examples and carefully designed exercises. They also learn the daśa-lakārāḥ (ten classifications of verb roots) and explore the laṭ (simple present tense), loṭ (imperative mood), and laṅg (past tense) lakārāḥ in depth.
The students get a glimpse into the history of Saṃskṛtam literature via Rāmāyaṇam, Nāṭya-śāstram, Pañcatantrakathāḥ, Mahābhāratam, Vyākaraṇa-śāstram and more. Subhāśitāni (wise sayings) and stories continue to complement their learning. This course is the part of the program-Certificate Program in Sanskrit Proficiency- Intermediate Phase. We strongly recommend registering for the complete phase consisting of 4 quarters
The book required – Kusumum
There will be a minimum of 1.5 contact hours with one or more faculty every week. The class is structured in a way that promotes discussion and learning based on self-study and reflection each week. There will be regular homeworks which will need to be submitted and final quarter end assignment for successful completion of the course.
